Montse Fontanals Torroja is a Principal with Hemming Morse. She has over eighteen years of experience in the civil construction industry, specializing in claims management, quantum analysis, damages quantification and project controls. As a civil engineer, she combines technical engineering knowledge with quantum and damages analysis, and has experience evaluating both scope entitlement and quantum issues in construction claims.
Ms. Fontanals has assisted owners, contractors and subcontractors in the evaluation of construction claims, including technical evaluations, entitlement assessments, damages quantification, and project control matters arising from public and private construction projects. She has supported clients throughout all phases of dispute resolution, and has served as both a fact witness and an expert witness in construction disputes.
Prior to joining Hemming Morse, Ms. Fontanals has worked in the construction of large and complex civil projects in the U.S. and Spain, being involved in all phases such as estimating, design and construction. She served as a claims manager for Dragados USA, preparing and managing claims to specialty contractors, design firms, insurance and surety companies and owners, including large and complex analysis of direct and indirect impacts, overhead, escalation and delay and disruption damages.
Ms. Fontanals has also been involved in project controls, developing an expertise in all areas of cost, including estimating, forecasting and cost and deviation analysis. She participated in the development, implementation and training of a new cost control analysis system and software for a general contractor.
Ms. Fontanals started her professional career as project engineer. That early experience gives her a broad vision and understanding of all aspects of the construction industry and formed the foundation for her specialization in project cost analysis.
